Welcome to Webster!

Hi, my name is Kaylea C. Furgerson. The “C” stands for Chantel, except I don’t like Chantel. I just like “C” and that’s all. Welcome to the Communication’s Blog! We’re so happy to have you in this department and at Missouri Southern. We’ve rounded up some tips and tricks for you. Whether you’re a new freshman, transfer student, or are graduating this semester, take a look at some of the info we think you should know!

1.) Bring a jacket.

Webster Hall is ALWAYS freezing (especially if you’re on the third floor)! Come prepared with a nice, cozy jacket — and maybe even some warm coffee — to keep you comfy.

2.) Get involved.

The Communication’s Department has a ton of clubs, organizations, and practicums to join! There is something for everyone. Getting involved can help you make friends, improve your college experience, and add to your resume. There’s KGCS television station, KXMS radio station, The Chart newspaper, PRSSA, Southern Broadcasters club, and more! While we definitely want you to get involved in the department, you can apply everything you’ve learned in class to any club at Missouri Southern and make our campus better.

3.) Know your professors.

Hand’s down, we have the best professors at Southern! They all want to see us succeed. Collectively, they have a lot of knowledge, experience, and expertise that they can share. Just ask and they can help!

4.) Be ready to get your steps in.

Our classes range from the bottom floor of Webster to the very top. For some reason, the stairs are the actual WORST! No amount of doing reps on a Stair-master can prepare you for having to run to the third floor when you’re a few minutes late. Just know we’re all winded and no one is judging.
